A VISUAL APPROACH TO EXTRAGALACTIC GAIA DATA EXPLOITATION

The Gaia mission, launched by the European Space Agency, was a milestone in galactic astrophysics, as it cataloged over two billion objects with unprecedented precision, providing a comprehensive map of the Milky Way. Although it was originally designed for galactic objects, its instruments are sensitive enough to detect bright extragalactic sources, opening the door to a new range of extragalactic studies. However, to fully explore the mission’s potential, it is necessary to process a large volume of data, a task that traditional astronomical tools are unable to handle. This data handling is one of the major challenges of modern Astronomy. The present work presents a summary of the author’s Master’s dissertation, in which a system is developed to process data from the third Data Release of the Gaia mission, with the aim of creating visualizations focused on extragalactic sources embedded within galactic data.
