UMA ABORDAGEM VISUAL PARA A EXPLORAÇÃO DOS DADOS EXTRAGALÁCTICOS DA MISSÃO GAIA

Resumo

A missão Gaia, da Agência Espacial Europeia, foi um marco na astrofísica galáctica, uma vez que catalogou mais de dois bilhões de objetos com precisão nunca antes obtida, criando um mapa completo da Via Láctea. Apesar de originalmente ter sido desenvolvida para objetos galácticos, seus instrumentos são sensíveis o suficiente para detectar fontes extragalácticas brilhantes, abrindo as portas para uma nova gama de estudos extragalácticos. Para explorar todo o potencial da missão Gaia, porém, é necessário processar um grande volume de dados, tarefa que as ferramentas astronômicas tradicionais não conseguem realizar. Este processamento de dados é um dos grandes desafios da Astronomia moderna. Neste trabalho, traz-se um resumo da dissertação de mestrado da autora, onde é desenvolvido um sistema para o processamento de dados do terceiro Data Release da missão Gaia, com o objetivo de criar visualizações focadas nas fontes extragalácticas que se encontram em meio aos dados galáticos.
