About the Journal

Astronomy sparks curiosity, bridges different fields of knowledge, and serves as a powerful tool for science education. IODA believes that knowledge generated by researchers, teachers, students, and amateur astronomers should circulate freely, contributing to a society that is more critical, curious, and scientifically literate. Our journal was born from this commitment.

History

IODA originated from the commitment of UNESP’s Didactic Astronomy Observatory (Department of Physics and Meteorology, UNESP Faculty of Sciences, Bauru campus) to the democratization of scientific knowledge. Initially an informational newsletter aimed at the general public, IODA returns as an indexed academic journal hosted on OJS, with the goal not only to inform but also to educate.

Thus, the journal "InFormativo do Observatório Didático de Astronomia" (IODA) is reborn, bringing together research, accounts of practical experiences, proposals for educational materials, outreach initiatives, amateur astronomy projects, and work produced by undergraduate and graduate students in the field of astronomy.

IODA seeks to strengthen astronomy education and amateur astronomy in Brazil and to bring diverse audiences closer to the Universe, contributing to the development of teachers, researchers, students, amateur astronomers, and those pursuing undergraduate and graduate studies.

To promote the production, dissemination, and democratization of knowledge in astronomy education, science outreach, and amateur astronomy, fostering connections between researchers, teachers, students, and society.

Vision

To become a leading journal dedicated to astronomy education as well as introductory and amateur astronomy.

Open Science

IODA supports practices that foster transparency, reproducibility, and the responsible sharing of scientific knowledge, encouraging the adoption of Open Science principles in its editorial processes whenever appropriate.

The journal maintains an open-access policy and accepts article submissions free of charge. The focus is on publishing research papers and accounts of experience in the fields of Astronomy Education and Amateur Astronomy, falling within the following CAPES categories:
